What does the Bible

teach about ...

... God

God is spirit.” (John 4:24)

God is eternal: “Before the mountains were born, or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” (Psalm 90:2)

God is omnipresent: “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest parts of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me.” (Psalm 139:7-10)

God is holy: “For I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy.” (Leviticus 11:44) – “Holy” means pure, ceremonially or morally clean. In particular it means perfect, without blemish, set apart, i.e. free from sin, without sin. (cf. Romans 6:22)

God is unchanging: “Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow.” (James 1:17)

God is light: “... God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” (1John 1:5)

God is love: “The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1John 4:8)

God is just: “His work is perfect, for all His ways are just; a God of faithfulness and without injustice, righteous and upright is He.” (Deuteronomy 32:4)

God is all of these things at the same time, for example, He cannot at any given moment be only love, without being holy and just at the same time.

And God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness ...'” (Genesis 1:26)

... make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

... the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, 'You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.'” (Luke 3:22)

... the Word was God ... and the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us ...” (John 1:1,14)

Jesus said, “Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me; otherwise believe on account of the works themselves.” (John 14:11)

Jesus said, “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me.” (John 15:26)

But Peter said, 'Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit ... you have not lied to men, but to God.'” (Acts 5:3-4)

It is near to impossible for the human mind to truly grasp the mystery of the Trinity. The following graphics are meant to assist our understanding, but, like all models, they are limited and can never represent the full truth or reality:

III. GOD IS SOVEREIGN – not contained in creation

Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand.” (Jeremiah 18:6)

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, 'I, the LORD, am the maker of all things, stretching out the heavens by Myself and spreading out the earth all alone, causing the omens of boasters to fail, making fools out of diviners, causing wise men to draw back and turning their knowledge into foolishness.” (Isaiah 44:24-25; cf. 1Cor. 1:26ff.)

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has became His counselor? Or who has first given to Him that it might be paid back to him again? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory for ever.” (Romans 11:33-36)

The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; the world and all it contains; You have founded them. ... Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; lovingkindness and truth go before You.” (Psalm 89:11,14)

... the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.” (Exodus 34:6-7)

'Yet even now,' declares the LORD, 'return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping and mourning; and rend your heart and not your garments.' Now return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and relenting of evil.” (Joel 2:12-13)

I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to graven images.” (Isaiah 42: 8)

A jealous and avenging God is the LORD ... and He reserves wrath for His enemies. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and the LORD will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. In whirlwind and storm is His way, and clouds are the dust beneath His feet. He rebukes the sea and makes it dry ... Mountains quake because of Him ... Who can stand before His indignation? Who can endure the burning of His anger? His wrath is poured out like fire and the rocks are broken up by Him. The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him.” (Nahum 1:2-7)

For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens ... who formed the earth and ... did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited, 'I am the LORD, and there is none else. I have not spoken in secret, in some dark land ... there is no other God besides Me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none except Me. Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is no other.'” (Isaiah 45:18-22)

For You have abandoned Your people ... because they are filled with influences from the east, and they are soothsayers ... The proud look of man will be abased and the loftiness of man will be humbled ...” (Isaiah 2:6, 11)

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God also gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator ...” (Romans 1:18-25)

And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to each person according to his deeds.” (Romans 2:2-6)

... God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar and His word is not in us.” (1John 1:5-10)

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16-18)

He has not dealt with us according to our sins ... For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:10-12)

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

... God, The Father

The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.” (John 3:35)

For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.” (John 5:21-23)

We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.” (1John 4:14)

When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me.” (John 15:26)

Anyone who ... does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.” (2John 1:9)

For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father.” (John 16:27)

... God, The Son -- Jesus Christ

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.... And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.... grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:1-3, 14, 17)

John testified about Him ... saying, 'This was He of whom I said, `He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.´'” (John 1:15) – “He who comes after me”: John the Baptist was not only born about 6 months earlier than Jesus (see Luke 1:36), but he also preceded Christ's ministry (see Matthew 3:11) <=> “He existed before me” points to Jesus' eternal existence as God (see John 1:1ff.).

The claim of Jesus Christ being the Creator and not a created being is confirmed also in other Bible passages:

He is the image of the invisible God ... For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth ... all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:15-17)

[God] ... has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.” (Hebrews 1:2)

... Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.” (1Corinthians 8:6)

... therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.” (John 5:18)

... Jesus Christ, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even the death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:5-11)

... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Jesus (speaking to His Jewish disciples): “... I know My own and My own know Me ... and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (... and regarding the nations:) “I have other sheep which are not of this fold; I must bring them also ... and they will become one flock with one shepherd.” (John 10:14-16)

For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.” (John 10:17-18)

The next day he [John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming to him and said, 'Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!'” (John 1:29)

And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” (John 8:29)

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2Corinthians 5:21)

... Jesus our Lord ... who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.” (Romans 4:24-25)

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)

For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth.” (1Peter 2:21-22, cf. Isaiah 53:9)

... knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.” (1Peter 1:18-19)

... Jesus ..., because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him ...” (Hebrews 7:24-25)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings ...” (Hebrews 13:8-9)

... we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.” (1John 2:1-2)

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruit, after that those who are Christ's at His coming.” (1Corinthians 15:22-23; at His comingcompare Acts 1:9-11 and 1Thessalonians 4:13-18)

He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.” (1Peter 2:24)

Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32)

... we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1John 2:1)

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12)

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4:4-5)

He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)

... He gave Him authority to execute judgment ... for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth: ... good deeds ... resurrection of life ... evil deeds ... resurrection of judgment.” (John 5:27-29)

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.” (1John 2:22-23)

Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophecy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'” (Matthew 7:21-23)

But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:33)

Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” (John 8:24)

But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! ... For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 1:8,11-12)

... God, The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit was there from the very beginning:

In the beginning God created ... and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.” (Genesis 1:1-2)

The Holy Spirit has an important part in God's work:

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew1:18)

But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (2Peter 1:20-21)

Jesus answered, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.'” (John 3:5)

... the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God. ... But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him ...” (1Corinthians 2:11-12,14)

Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven.” (Matthew 12:31)

The Holy Spirit acts as a Person does:

being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia ...” (Acts 13:4)

it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden ...” (Acts 15:28)

having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia ...” (Acts 16:6)

the Holy Spirit has made you overseers ...” (Acts 20:28)

the Spirit explicitly says” (1Timothy 4:1)

the Spirit also helps our weaknesses ... the Spirit Himself intercedes for us” (Romans 8:26)

Ephesians 3:4-5: He reveals the mystery of Christ.

I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever, that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive ... but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” (John 14:26)

... the Helper ... when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.” (John 16:7-8)

But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.” (John 16:13-14)

... having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14)

Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised ... you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now ... you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses ... even to the remotest parts of the earth. ... When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. ... And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit ...” (Acts 1:4-5,8; 2:1,4)

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, ... we were all made to drink of one Spirit.” (1Corinthians 12:13)

... if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. ... The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Romans 8:9,16)

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, 'Jesus is accursed'; and no one can say, 'Jesus is Lord,' except by the Holy Spirit.” (1Corinthians 12:3)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5)

Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away ...” (Acts 3:19)

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved ...” (Acts 16:31)

that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise ...”* (Ephesians 1:12-13)

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.” (Titus 3:5-6)

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!(Luke 11:13)

... The Devil

How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, you who have weakened the nations! But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven ... I will make myself like the Most High.' Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol, to the recess of the pit.” (Isaiah 14:12-15)

You had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering ... You were the anointed cherub who covers, and I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked in the midst of stones of fire. You were blameless from the day you were created until unrighteousness was found in you. ... And you sinned; therefore I have cast you as profane from the mountain of God. And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I cast you to the ground ... you have become terrified and you will cease to be forever.” (Ezekiel 28:12-19)

... the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Matthew 25:41)

And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” (Revelation 12:9)

No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.” (2Corinthians 11:14-15)

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.” (1John 2:22) => comes these days also as a distortion of who Father and Son are

I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you have heard from your father. ... Jesus said to them, 'If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come of My own initiative, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.'” (John 8:38,42-45)

Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are leading you into futility; they speak a vision of their own imagination, not from the mouth of the LORD. They keep saying to those who despise Me, ´The LORD has said, You will have peace´; and as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, they say, ´Calamity will not come upon you.´ But who has stood in the council of the LORD, that he should see and hear His word? Who has given heed to His word and listened? Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone forth in wrath, even a whirling tempest; it will down on the head of the wicked. The anger of the LORD will not turn back until He has performed and carried out the purposes of His heart; in the last days you will clearly understand it. I did not sent these prophets, but they ran. I did not speak to them, but they prophesied. But if they had stood in My counsil, then they would have announced My words to My people, and would have turned them back from their evil way and from the evil of their deeds.'” (Jeremiah 23:16-22)

What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God ... You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” (1Corinthians 10:19-21)

... Evolution

In Genesis 1:1-31 we are told how God created the earth and everything on it in only six days. In Exodus 20:9-11 we are told to use the same pattern: “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work ... For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day ...” -- God created the earth on six ordinary days and rested on the seventh ordinary day, in order to set the same pattern for us. (There are more and more scientists who support the view of our earth being thousands of years old instead of millions, and that evolution is still naught but an unproved theory – see Creation Research and Scientific Papers, Index of ICR Impact Articles, or “The Answer Book” by K. Ham, A. Snelling & C. Wieland)

... Karma

What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith; but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. Just as it is written, 'Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.'” (Romans 9:30-33)

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

All our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment.” (Isaiah 64:6)

... who has sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind? ... neither ... this man ... nor his parents, but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” (John 9:2-3)

How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered! How blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit! When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the LORD'; and You forgave the guilt of my sin.” (Psalm 32:1-5)

... Reincarnation

And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment ...” (Hebrews 9:27)

One of the criminals ... was saying, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into Your kingdom!' And He said to him, 'Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.'” (Luke 23:39,42-43)

For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.” (Matthew 22:30)

... Itself

All Scripture is inspired by God ...” (2Timothy 3:16) – the original Greek word in the New Testament for “inspired” is theopneustos = “God-breathed”

... not cleverly devised fables ... of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty ... So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place ... But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (2Peter 1:16-21)

... letters ... in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.” (2Peter 3:16)

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, 'If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.'” (John 8:31-32)

What does “Christ”

Christos” is the Greek translation of the Hebrew word of “Messiah” (Heb. mashiah) – as the Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and Aramaic. In all 39 instances of its occurring in the Old Testament, it is rendered by the Septuagint (i.e. the Old Testament in Greek language) as “Christos.” The word per se means “anointed one” and points to priests, prophets, and kings who were anointed with oil, and so consecrated to their respective offices:

... you shall anoint them ... that they may serve Me as priests.” (Exodus 28:41)

... Jehu ... you shall anoint king over Israel; and Elisha ... you shall anoint as prophet ...” (1Kings 19:16)

The great Messiah is anointed “above His fellows” (Psalm 45:7) because He embraces in Himself all the three offices:

... Jesus ... having become a high priest for us ...” (Hebrews 6:20)

This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.” (Matthew 21:11)

... until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which He will bring about at the proper time – He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords.” (1Timothy 6:14-15)
